Out & About - ASC Walking Tour

Out & About is an occasional series of stories that highlight the best Charlotte has to offer in arts and culture, shopping and dining, entertainment and sports.

Driving through Uptown Charlotte you'll notice several prominent displays of art from noted artists around the world.  The Arts & Sciences Council offers a Public Art Walking Tour to enhance visitors' experience as they wind through Uptown.  It's a 45-minute self-guided Podcast you can download on their website along with a handy map. There's also a brochure.

The tour will help you understand works including Il Grande Disco, the "Disco Chicken," and a cluster of huge bejeweled skulls.

Public art expresses the relationship between people and place. Charlotte, through the foresight of public officials, corporate partners and visionary individuals, is fortunate to have a wonderful collection of distinctive public art in the Center City and beyond. This walking tour reveals Charlotte's unique culture, diverse communities, rich history and civic pride. The Arts & Science Council celebrates the important public and private partnerships that have led to the creation of this dynamic collection of artworks that enliven our city's public spaces and social discourse.
