Out & About - Great treats on Selwyn Avenue
Out & About is an occasional series of stories that highlight the best Charlotte has to offer in arts and culture, shopping and dining, entertainment and sports.
From artisan pizza to eclectic fusion fare and frozen yogurt, a variety of great restaurants lie within a short walk from Queens' campus along Selwyn Avenue.
Head south from campus and you'll see Selwyn Pub (which is owned by Queens' faculty member Jim Foster), Yoforia, Mellow Mushroom, Reid's Fine Foods, Nolen Kitchen and Fabo.
Yoforia offers delicious frozen yogurt in many flavors along with healthy (and just for fun, not so healthy) toppings. Mellow Mushroom brings a funky 60's flare to pizza and also offers salads and sandwiches. (Get there early so you can grab a table in a hollowed out school bus.) Reid's Fine Foods combines a top notch food market with a deli and their sandwich meats are cut fresh while you wait. Nolen Kitchen offers American fusion cuisine and a lovely dining experience inside and out on their patio. Finally, Fabo is part coffeehouse and part art gallery. When strollling along Selwyn, there are even more galleries and art to admire from the Renee George Gallery which specializes in contemporary abstract, realistic works of fine art and sculpture to the gorgeous Shain Gallery who has earned a reputation as one of the finest contemporary art providers in Charlotte.
Last but not least, part gallery and part giftshop, Ruby's is a great stop to shop. Whether you need a unique gift for a friend or a cute piece of jewelry for the weekend's social events, you won't be disappointed. There is more to explore, so don your walking shoes and enjoy the beautiful scenery that makes Myers Park one of the best locations in Charlotte to spend your day!
