Queens Alumni Mentoring Program
We invite alumni to participate in our Queens Alumni Mentoring Program to assist undergraduates with their career development and to reconnect with Queens. As a mentor you are encouraged to promote the student's personal development by providing knowledge, values, perspectives, networking and resource information.
Individual Career Development Coaching
The Blair House staff is here to assist with all aspects of the career search process. We work hand-in-hand with each graduate to develop a life-work plan, create effective resumes and cover letters, improve interviewing techniques, conduct job offer and salary negotiations, and cope with the transition from college to the "real world." Please call to make an individual appointment or come by The Blair House. Office hours are Monday - Thursday, 8:30-5:30 and Friday, 8:30-12 noon, by appointment only after 12 noon on Friday.
Computerized Career Assessments
We now offer two computerized assessments (Career Liftoff and MAPP.) Each assessment is completed with a Counseling Session with Blair House staff member to assist in comprehending the results and utilizing them in a life-work plan.
Resume/Cover Letter/Thank You Letter Guidance
Learn how to construct a resume from scratch, with advice and tips on how to properly reach the intended audience and market oneself for the next job. All resumes will be different depending on individual strengths and weaknesses. Learn the value and function of a well-written resume, cover letter and Thank You note.
Dale Halton Career Resource Library - Print and Electronic
Our resource library consists of print materials such as career and industry exploration and development readings, Job Bank books, Graduate School information, Labor Statistics, Government and Public resources and local phone directories. Electronic resources consist of three Internet-ready workstations with MS Office Suite, a shared laser printer, fax capabilities and email access.
Queens University of Charlotte Internship/Career Database
As of August 1, 2009, we will have a new Jobs website, College Central Network, which consists of over 1000 local Charlotte companies that have previously hosted a Queens University of Charlotte student or have specifically requested one. The database is a great starting point in the job search process.
Interviewing Advice and Video-Taped Mock Interviews with feedback
Learn how to actually "win" the job. The interview is the make or break to getting a job. We assist with strategies and advice, then conduct video-taped mock interviews, with critical feedback to explore strengths and weaknesses. The only way to "ace" an interview is to practice first.
On-Campus Recruitment
Alumni may be selected to interview with employers through the ICP office. Please visit the ICP office to view the list of companies scheduled to visit the campus and to sign up for interviews for which you may qualify.
Networking
Networking is the #1 way to find a job. They say it's all who you know, but more importantly it is who knows you! We teach you how to begin developing a professional network, how to maintain one, and the values and benefits of reciprocity in job searching.
Internship and Career Programs Jobs List
Sign up to receive a weekly email list serve that keeps you updated on Blair House news and events, job market information, and the newest job leads. To join the email listserve, send an email to internships@queens.edu, with Name, Graduation Year, and Student Id #.
Salary Research and Negotiation Tips
Learn how to research salary information from various resources and position yourself for a successful salary negotiation. The Blair House staff assists with tips, advice and role-playing.
A job seeker's best weapon is information. The more information a seeker has, the less chance of making a bad choice in jobs. The Blair House staff assists with company and industry research resources, how to understand the labor market, and how several economic, political and cultural issues all influence one another.
Graduate School Information and Application Assistance
The Blair House maintains information on Graduate Schools both electronically and in print. We also have GRE, GMAT, LSAT, MCAT and other graduate school admission test information.
