International Internship FAQ
- Can anyone apply to do an international internship?
Before starting an internship for credit at Queens, students must successfully complete the World of Work Class (INTE 297 Class). Internships can be done from that point forward, locally or abroad. Because the application process can take months for international internships, students are allowed to start applying while they are still in the World of Work class, so long as they pass at the end of the semester. - When do the trips take place?
The World Endeavors International Internships take place during the summer months. Student can choose to go abroad for two or three months, depending on their interests and location. - How much do the trips cost?
The cost of each trip varies, depending on the length of your stay and which country you choose to go to. Two month international internships range from $4,200 to $9,100. Three month international internships range from $4,900 to $11,200. To discuss the cost of each trip further, make an appointment with the Manger of Internships. - Can I use my John Belk International Program money to fund part of the trip?
Yes! Students who plan to do an international internship during the summer before their senior year can use their John Belk International Program (JBIP) money. These students will be doing the international internship in place of their JBIP trip and must apply for the funding a year in advance. *Please note that there is a limit on how many students can use their JBIP money for international internships. In addition, and just like the JBIP trip application process, only students with a GPA of 3.0 or higher will be awarded the funding. - How long does the application process take?
If you want to want to use your John Belk International Program money, traveling during the end of your junior year, you will have to start the application process in the spring of your sophomore year. If you do not want to use your JBIP money, the application process starts 6-8 months in advance. Follow the time line below to get a general idea of what needs to be accomplished before you start your international internship.
