Tracy Heberlig , MSN, RN
- Instructor , Presbyterian School of Nursing
- Blair College of Health
Mrs. Tracy Heberlig is an instructor with the Presbyterian School of Nursing. She teaches both classroom and clinical content within the ASN and BSN programs. She has a background in Medical-Surgical nursing, with a primary focus on the care of patients after surgery. She completed her MSN at Gardner-Webb University, where her masters' thesus focused on the perceptions of cultural competence among associate degree nursing students.
Her philosophy of nursing education has been formed through professional experiences and personal beliefs. For her, effective teaching involves use of creativity, high energy, technology, flexibility, and evidence-based practice to stimulate students' active participation and independent thought.
As an educator, she is passionate about what and to whom she teaches. She appreciates diversity and welcomes the experiences the students bring to their nursing education. Her teaching style has been described as challenging in a way that encourages students to rise to effective standards of nursing practice, without belittling or discouraging students. She enjoys providing opportunities to incorporate and apply theoretical knowledge to clinical practice. She truly believes that nursing involves lifelong learning.
Mrs. Heberlig is married to Dr. Eric Heberlig, Associate Professor of Political Science at The University of North Carolina at Charlotte. She is the mother of three children: Colin (born in Vietnam, adopted when he was 2 years old), Mena (born in Ethiopia, adopted when she was 4 months old), and Ellie (their "homegrown surprise" and biological daughter).
She is a member of the North Carolina Nurses Association (NCNA) and Sigma Theta Tau (the nursing honor society). Mrs. Heberlig is an active member of Advent Lutheran Church and enjoys singing in the choir. She also is involved with local adoption groups.
