The Human Service Studies Department offers a major in Human Service Studies. Human Services emphasizes meeting human needs through an interdisciplinary knowledge base, focusing on prevention as well as remediation of problems, and maintaining a commitment to improving the overall quality of life of service populations. Introductory courses present basic issues, concepts and techniques in Human Service; Upper level courses allow students to deepen their understanding of cultural and ethical issues and implement professional level projects in the community.  Internships in an array of Human Service settings enable students to make practical application of helping principles and skills. A major in Human Service Studies provides a basis for graduate student in the areas of counseling, social work, marriage and family therapy, school psychology, public policy, mental health, health care and similar areas.
