My nursing career began in 1995 in a private mental health facility in the Psychiatric ICU. Following that, I spent ten more years working in mental health settings across the country. During that time I worked with patients across the life span with mental health or substance abuse issues.
In 2004, I relocated to Charlotte and decided to explore other options in nursing. Since then, I have worked on med/surg and oncology units. I still actively work in the hospital on weekends.
In 2010, I received my MSN from Queens University of Charlotte. My capstone project involved developing an unfolding schizophrenia simulation involving students from the drama department.
Presently, I am working on developing a number of innovative teaching techniques in the classroom. My areas of interest for future research include: lateral violence in nursing, and ways to incorporate a more global influence into the nursing curriculum.
