Queens’ First Exercise and Sport Sciences Major

This spring, the Blair College of Health adds four new health and sport majors.  For Jena Ready '15, this makes Queens the perfect school.

Jena transferred to Queens from a small, rural private school.  "It was just in the middle of nowhere," she says.  Jena  is from the Ballantyne area and at first was unsure she wanted to be so close to home.  "Then I visited Queens and realized how nice it is here in Myers Park.  Plus, it's far enough from the Ballantyne area that it feels like I'm away, but I can go home when I want."

Jena found a spot on the women's lacrosse team and has been enjoying her new school, new team and new friends.  The new major opportunity was the icing on the cake.  "I came in as a communication major.   I have always wanted to do exercise science but none of the schools I was interested in had it."  Queens has answered her wish.

Kevin Burke, the new dean of the Blair College of Health added four new health and sport majors.  Jena got wind of this and was the first to declare Exercise and Sport Sciences as her major.

"I'm looking forward to Exercise Principles and Applications.  Next semester I'll do Sports History.  I've always been into exercise, sport nutrition and sport endurance.  I will use my degree toward becoming either a personal trainer or a strength and conditioning coach.  I may even apply to physical therapy school."
