Dr. Jennifer Cook Easterwood has been a professor in Queens' Biology Department for nine years. Her courses include Principles of Biology II; Microbiology; Immunology, Genetics, and the senior capstone, Biological Investigations. In addition to her departmental responsibilities, she has taught in the Core Program, led John Belk International Trips to Italy, and advised four students on their Honor's Program Theses.
Her research interests are microbiological in nature, and include hand-washing studies and microbial contamination studies, though she is willing to pursue other fields of research, including immunology, virology and genetics. Recently she has been involved in a departmental collaboration with the Carolina Raptor Center in order to determine the gender of their raptors using molecular biology techniques. Furthermore, she and a senior biology major are currently investigating the use of C. elegans as a model organism in undergraduate labs.
Dr. Easterwood is originally from Winter Park, FL. She lives with her husband of nine years and her 6-year-old daughter and 3-year-old son.
