Because education is a social and political force that creates massive possibilities for the public, Dr. Penn considers teaching a privilege.

Dr. Penn joined the Queens Community as an assistant professor in the Human Service Studies Department in the fall of 2011. She teaches Introduction to Human and Community Services, Ethical Issues in Human Services, Leading Psycho-educational Groups, Play Therapy, Vulnerable Populations in Human Services, and Working with Individuals In Need. Her current research interests include examining multicultural issues in play therapy, the evolution of color blind racial attitudes, ethical issues in human services, clinical supervision, family play therapy, parent consultation, and mental health reform, and she has published several related articles.

She is a past board member for the North Carolina Association for Play Therapy and the Multicultural Play Therapy Center at the University of North Carolina Charlotte. She presents in a variety of forums to increase clinicians and human service professionals’ awareness of the clinician and ethical issues in the human service field. Additionally, Dr. Penn is a clinician practicing in Charlotte, N.C.
