Mathematics Department

A Balance of Theory and Application
|
The Mathematics Department strives to give students the proper balance of theoretical knowledge and concrete application required for careers or graduate study in a wide variety of fields. Mathematics While it is the nature of mathematics to examine concepts from a deductive and numerical approach, many of the discoveries within the discipline extend beyond the quantitative. The mathematics major at Queens includes both abstract learning to challenge the pure mathematician, as well as applied courses for those whose interests lie in the “real world.” Students can also earn licensure to teach at the high school level through coordination with the Cato School of Education. A degree in mathematics will teach you to think logically and solve complex problems. With Your Mathematics Degree Math opens the door to many different career paths. Our majors are well-prepared for graduate school, and have gone on to graduate study at schools including Emory University, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Virginia Tech, and William and Mary. Many students go on to careers in actuarial science, accounting, banking or finance, while others pursue computer programming, law, medicine, academia and teaching. |
