The Alpo Franssila & Marjorie Knight-Crane Convergence Laboratory was made possible by the extraordinary generosity of Alpo Franssila & Marjorie Knight Crane, class of 1990. This innovative learning space exists as a testament to the Knight School of Communication's commitment to digital media exploration and production, and reflects the valuable support of our talented alumni.

Completed and opened for use in Fall 2008, this space of learning has already delighted Communication students enrolled in Public Relations, Newswriting, Layout and Design, and Digital Media.

The laboratory includes:

  • 20 24-inch iMac computers with an array of programs on demand for various media production;
  • 3 50-inch wall-mounted televisions which create a true "newsroom" environment;
  • LCD projection and Smart board technology;
  • Color printers; 
  • Videoconferencing capability; and, 
  • Studio cameras and other related equipment.

Completed and opened for use in Fall 2008, the laboratory hosts classes at many times during the day, but is also open for project-based student use through swipe-card access.

Classes which have utilized the room in the past year include Introduction to Digital Media Production, Layout & Design, Flash Animation, Public Relations, Advertising, and Newswriting.
