David Dawson enters his first year at Queen’s University as an adjunct professor teaching sports publicity for the Knight School of Communication. Prior to becoming a teacher, Dawson achieved outstanding success as a public relations practitioner and journalist in the sports and entertainment industry.
Professor Dawson’s career began in college by assisting the sports information departments at Winston-Salem State University and Wake Forest University. That experience allowed him to provide media relations support to the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association Basketball Tournaments (CIAA), the second largest basketball tournament in the country, and the Atlantic Coast Conference Basketball Tournaments (ACC).
In addition, Dawson has worked for three NFL teams, including the Carolina Panthers in public relations. He provided media relations support for the NFL at Super Bowl XXXVII and Super Bowl XXXIX respectively. Dawson later worked for the Charlotte Motor Speedway's public relations department.
As an Assistant Account Executive for Taylor, the leading sports and lifestyle PR agency in the country, he helped managed high profile accounts including: NASCAR, Alltel Wireless and Levi Strauss Signature.
Professor Dawson teaches sports and entertainment marketing at Independence High School in Charlotte and holds several supporting leadership roles including DECA advisor. He was born and raised in Chicago. He is also member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc.
