Non-Credit Certificate in Business Continuity Management

To prepare individuals for careers in the growing field of business continuity, Queens University of Charlotte is collaborating with Disaster Recovery Institute International (DRII) to offer the Business Continuity Management Certificate. The course introduces the necessary aspects of business continuity management for determining the most appropriate requirements for their organization.
At the conclusion of the course, students will be prepared to sit for the DRI International Qualifying Exam. Additionally, all students will receive a one-year membership to the Contingency Planning Association of The Carolinas (CPAC). CPAC meets quarterly and provides a forum for the interchange of ideas and information in the field of contingency planning and disaster recovery.
Program Description
Based on the DRII Ten Professional Practices, this interactive program provides training, tools, and hands-on experience to help students understand the key components of disaster/emergency management and business continuity planning. Materials cover the processes of program initiation and project management, risk and business impact analysis, vulnerability analysis, loss prevention, and risk mitigation; and the development, implementation, testing and maintenance of plans and procedures to assist and organization to prepare to recover from an event which prevents them from doing business in their normal manner, if at all. Dates: Consecutive Tuesdays beginning March 19th - June 25th, 6 pm-9 pm.
Location: All classes are held on campus at Queens University of Charlotte, 1900 Selwyn Avenue, Charlotte, North Carolina, 28274.

Who should get certified? This is applicable to many positions, including: associates at consulting firms, business continuity specialists, project managers, disaster recovery analysts, business continuity analysts, continuity management consultants, and continuity planners, to name a few.
Course Materials: Students will be provided with all course materials no later than the first day of the course. This includes the Professional Practices for Business Continuity Planners Guidebook and Case Studies of various companies' disaster responses and best practices in BCM. A BCP Tools & Resources Kit is also provided with DVD lists and website links of articles noted in the course.
Course Topics: BCP methodology; developing plan goals and objectives; data gathering; incorporating human resources; integrating alternative strategies for catastrophic event response and recovery; developing training/testing programs; creating plan products; and maintaining BCP relevancy. Other topics discussed are designing public relations/crisis communications strategies, coordinating efforts with public authorities and establishing emergency preparedness and response procedures.

Audience: BCLE 1500 is a 45-hour course designed for students at the introductory level in the study of BCM or for those seeking certification and guidance in building business continuity plans (BCPs) for their organizations.
Attendance and Participation: Your attendance and participation are important means for the instructor to assess your skills, quality of thought, and growth as a student.
Course Completion/Incompletes: This course requires extensive engagement with other students, the instructor, and with the course materials as well as completion of classroom exercises and the exam. Thus, keeping up with the schedule is essential to your success. Some work is difficult or even impossible to make up (such as discussion with others), so you must plan your schedule carefully. Be sure you can commit the time to be in attendance and complete this course.
Cancellation and Refund Policy: Cancellations received at least ten (10) business days prior to the first day of class will receive a refund, minus a $100 cancellation fee. No refunds or make-up classes will be given after that time. If you do not officially withdraw from or attend a course, you are still responsible for the payment.
