Gary Powell
Gary Powell is an Associate Professor of Finance in the McColl School of Business at Queens University of Charlotte. He holds a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Akron (1980), an M.S. in Economics (1986) and a D.B.A. in Finance (1988) from Kent State University. He is also a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA). Prior to joining the faculty at Queens, he was a member of the faculty at American University, Hood College, and Towson University. At Hood College, he was the Director of the MBA program and Chair of the Department of Economics and Management.
Gary recently coauthored a book entitled Understanding Financial Management with Blackwell Publishers (UK). He has also published more than twenty articles in prestigious academic and professional journals including Financial Management, The Financial Review, The Journal of Economics and Finance, Quarterly Review of Economics and Finance, and the Review of Financial Economics. His research topics include dividend policy, stock repurchases, stock splits, exchange listing, and corporate social responsibility. Gary has also served on editorial review staff for the Journal of Applied Business Research.
As a senior associate with The Institute for Public-Private Partnerships in Washington, DC, Gary has an extensive training and consulting record. He has trained more than 5,000 financial managers, accountants, engineers, and other government officials in areas related to project finance, financial analysis and modeling for capital expenditures, restructuring of utilities, privatization of state-owned enterprises, economics of regulation, portfolio management, and social insurance reform. He has performed these consulting and training activities in numerous developing countries including Albania, Egypt, South Africa, Zambia, Nigeria, Indonesia, Trinidad and Tobago, Jamaica, and Macedonia.
