Michael Arena , Ph.D

Dr. Arena is an experienced leadership-development executive with more than 20 years of experience in driving strategic change and organizational development. Most recently he spent two years as a visiting scientist in Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s Media Lab in a partnership with Bank of America, dedicated to driving innovation. Key areas of focus included such concepts as behavioral networks, monitoring social signals, creating connected economies, behavioral economics and understanding collaborative communities.
Prior to this role, Dr. Arena served as a senior vice president of leadership development for Bank of America's Global Consumer and Small Business Banking group, where he was responsible for such areas as talent management, executive development, performance management and organizational effectiveness. He also has served in multiple international consulting roles, working with such companies as Pfizer, General Motors, Lockheed Martin, Bayer Corporation and BF Goodrich.
Dr. Arena’s most recent academic efforts have focused on innovation in a hyper-connected society, and developing a better understanding of the emerging behavioral patterns and social dynamics necessary for growth. He is currently focused on organization-development methods that create the conditions for idea generation, entrepreneurship and innovation. Specific areas of interest include creative experimentation, idea emergence, information diffusion, social capital, open-source innovation, behavior networks, design research, viral marketing and strategic architectures.
