Karen teaches financial accounting and auditing in the undergraduate program. She also teaches the MBA Foundations course in the PMBA program and Managerial Accounting in the online MBA program. Karen is a certified public accountant (CPA) and Chartered Global Management Accountant (CGMA) with over twenty years of experience in public accounting, private industry, and academia. She began her career with the public accounting firm of McGladrey & Pullen in Charlotte and has worked with privately held companies as well as a multi-billion dollar international corporation in positions such as Energy Manager, Payroll Tax Manager, Controller, CFO, and COO. Her consulting practice focuses on process improvement, profit improvement, and strategy development and execution. Active in her profession, Karen has served on the Board of Directors of the North Carolina Association of Certified Public Accountants (NCACPA), and was selected as a "CPA Ambassador" for the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA). Passionate about financial literacy in the state, she was the first chairperson of the Financial Literacy Council of the NCACPA. She continues to participate in financial literacy, chapter, and service events with the association. She has also served on church and community boards such as Habitat for Humanity and Piedmont Players Theatre.
