Writing Center
"I am returning this otherwise good typing paper to you because someone has printed gibberish all over it and put your name at the top." ~ Anonymous English Professor.
As funny as this comment is to read about someone else's work, it's just the type of thing that leaves students saying, "I can't write."
In The Writing Center we believe EVERYONE can write. Better yet, everyone can write well. We're here to help you discover how. We want to help you communicate more clearly and effectively whether it's an essay, a research report, a cover letter, a resume, a personal statement or a presentation.
Our peer tutors, and Writing Center Faculty Jenn Goddu, are here to provide friendly feedback at any stage in the ongoing process of writing.
If you think you're done, we can be your first audience (regardless of the subject area). We may not know much - or anything - about the history of plastids, sustainable housing, or principles of thermodynamics, but we can provide friendly feedback to fine tune your work.
If you haven't even started, we can help with that too. We can guide you through generating ideas, organizing a paper, choosing and reviewing sources, formulating arguments and more.
A one-on-one session in The Writing Center is another way the Center for Academic Success can help you achieve your goals. With our individualized attention you'll be putting your typing paper to great use. We want you to be proud to put your name at the top of your work having proved to yourself you too can write.
Additionally, students can e-mail WritingCenter@queens.edu for consultation. Please include your name, the class you are writing for and a brief summary of what the assignment required. Expect a response within 24 hours to papers sent Mon - Thu, and within 72 hours to papers sent Fri, Sat or Sun.
