South Africa Country Resources

Be sure to check the Country Profiles page to find websites with lots of information on most any country - including South Africa.

To learn the ins and outs of South African culture and how it differs from our own, look at the incredibly detailed Countries and their Cultures website. You'll find details on everything from national symbols and ethnic relations to etiquette and food. Another great site is Kwintessential, which gives insight into some of the basics on cultural attitudes, etiquette and values.

Welcome to South Africa is the official site of the SA Tourism Board - a comprehensive resource covering a wide range of topics. Another resource is South Africa -- Alive with Possibility, which has articles on topics from animals to health care, democracy to sports. In particular, you'll want to look over the pages on the A to Z of South African Culture, including a great section on history, and a page on the people and languages of South Africa.

You can also explore South Africa's museums on that same website. The Apartheid Museum also has information and pictures on the country's former political structure and its effects. A more in-depth discussion of the issues surrounding the history of South Africa is on Understanding Apartheid.

For current news stories on South Africa, check out the options on onlinenewspapers.com, which has a lot of choices, including the "African Sporting Gazette" and "Business Day," as well as the more mainstream "Daily Mail" and "Guardian."

Don't forget to check out the animals, which you can learn about by navigating South African wildlife, which has great pictures. The site also has a South African Birdlife gallery to explore.
