Selected students in all majors can complete their professional internship requirement overseas instead of in Charlotte or the United States.
Through partners like Academia Latinoamericana and the Community Service Alliance, we offer affordable, professionally immersive internships that allow students to work abroad and even live with local families. Our partners specialize in culturally immersive programs, and their goal is to have a direct and positive impact on participants and their host communities by providing the opportunity for life-changing experiences. When working through one of Queens' partner organizations, students receive a full array of services to ensure a signature internship experience including student interviews for placement at internships sites; on-ground cultural and language orientation; housing placement and assistance (including homestays); advice on visas; international cell phones and support staff in the host country.
Students may also arrange their own international internships and obtain approval for academic credit through the Vandiver Center for Career Development Office. These are more independent experiences that require more initiative on the students' part. Students may apply for a scholarship of up to $2,000 to help defray the cost of an independent international internship.
"The data show that international internships are highly regarded by employers. The kids who will be successful today are those that take themselves out of their comfort zone and develop a global mindset."
- David Lloyd of the Intern Group, quoted in Time, Feb 2014
