As the parent of a traditional undergraduate student we know you are dedicated to helping your student succeed at Queens.  We've provided information on this page to help you find many items of interest regarding financial aid and student accounts to help you in this goal.

Communication

In a continuing effort to go green and reduce our paper consumption, we will start emailing all correspondence from our office to your student's Queens email.  This includes all award letters and revised award letters starting with 2014-15 awards.   We will no longer mail information home except in rare cases as required by federal or state regulation.  Please make sure to remind your student to read all email from our office.   The subject line will always include "Student Financial Services".

Award Letters and FAFSA for 2014-15

As a result of new federal regulations, we must receive an update from our software vendor prior to issuing award letters for 2014-15, which means we expect to start providing award letters via email in early July.  As a reminder, a new FAFSA is required each year to renew any federal, state and Queens need based aid.   Please make sure you have completed your FAFSA for the 2014-15 year so that your student will be able to receive a complete award letter as soon as we begin processing aid.   Please visit www.fafsa.ed.gov to complete your 2014-15 FAFSA.

myAccount

Students access their student account through myAccount.  Students may set up a parent pin for parents to have access to their student account.  Parents will receive an email at the email address the student provides during setup with a password and a specific link to follow for parent access.  This process is separate from having an access code to speak with someone in our office about your student's financial information.

Payment

Payment for fall is due August 1st.  Your student may see complete charges online via myAccount in mid-June.  Financial aid awards will also be viewable on myAccount in early July.  We will mail hard copies of bills for fall in July, but encourage students to review their student account online as soon as information is available.   We will only mail bills once during the academic year.  While  2014-15 awards may differ slightly from 2013-14, they can be used to help estimate your net cost for fall 2014 by subtracting fall 2013 awards from the fall 2014 charges on the student account.  

We are pleased to continue to offer a 10 Month Payment Plan for comprehensive undergraduate students, which allows the net cost for the full academic year  to be split across 10 payments from August to May with no interest and a low annual fee of just $75.   A copy of an agreement specific to each eligible student will be included with the bill.  If you would like to utilize the 10 Month Payment option sign and return the form and sign up online via myAccount by July 25th to have your first monthly payment drafted on August 1st.

Drop versus Withdrawal - What does it mean financially?

A student incurs a legal obligation to pay tuition at the time of registration. A decision by the student to not attend, or to stop attending, a class constitutes either a "drop" or a "withdrawal" depending on the timing of the notice to the University.

An official "drop" releases the student from all tuition liability and a record of the enrollment does not appear on the student transcript. A drop only occurs when the student notifies the University before the end of the drop/add period for which they are enrolled of his or her intent to drop the enrollment and not attend the class.

If a student notifies the University after the end of the add/drop period of his or her intention to withdraw their enrollment, the College's official refund schedule determines the amount, if any, of the tuition refund the student may receive.  Queens refund policy only provides tuition refund if a student withdrawals from all classes for which they are enrolled during a term.  Fees are non-refundable.  Please review the schedule below for the refund percentage provided if all classes are dropped.  For traditional undergraduate students enrolled in the 15 week term, week one is the drop/add week.

Tuition Insurance

College is a great investment in your child's future. It's probably also one of the largest financial investments your family has made. If your student has to withdraw due to serious mental health or medical issues your student may not be eligible for a full tuition refund. That's why Tuition Refund Insurance is so important

Health Insurance

Queens University of Charlotte requires all full-time traditional undergraduate students to have adequate health insurance.  Each year in the first term of enrollment the University enrolls each required student in coverage provided by United Healthcare.  Students who have adequate insurance through other means may waive out of the university's plan.  IMPORTANT - please remember that insurance must be waived every academic year.  The waiver site will be available beginning June 19th: www.uhcsr.com

Access Code

Government law (FERPA) prohibits Queens University of Charlotte from speaking with you without your son's or daughter's permission. Please ensure your student has completed the Access Code form if you will be helping him/her with their financial aid or student account.  You will need to provide the access code on file with our office each time you speak with one of our team about your student.  Please note that your student must grant access to their academic information with the Registrar's Office separately from their financial aid and student account.
