Dialogue, Events and Education
The Learning Society of Queens leads the way in influencing intellectual dialogue in the Charlotte region. Since 1988, its members' generosity has made possible a semi-annual speakers series that draws experts on important contemporary issues to campus.
We have hosted over 50 speakers, including in 2015-2016 Sir Salman Rushdie, author of The Satanic Verses, The Moor's Last Sigh and The Ground Beneath Her Feet, as well as Dr. Atul Gawande, surgeon, writer and public health researcher, who authored several NYT bestsellers including Better, The Checklist Manifesto and Being Mortal: Medicine and What Matters in the End.
Join The Learning Society
Your annual membership gives you access to the leading minds of our times, while funding a unique learning experience for our students. Guest speakers spend an equal amount of time on a student-led discussion as they do at the evening lecture. Read membership benefits and pricing information.
