Friends of Art
Friends of Art unites Queens with the Charlotte community through a shared appreciation of the visual arts.
Friends of Art at Queens was founded in 1983 by artist and educator Sarah Toy (1906-1991) whose vision generated the idea of an art organization and whose dedication led to its establishment. Friends of Art at Queens boasts many dedicated past presidents whose commitment and generosity has helped sustain the organization for eighteen years.
Friends of Art at Queens unites Queens University of Charlotte with the Charlotte community through a shared appreciation of the visual arts. Friends of Art supports the Art Department and sponsors lectures and exhibitions by significant artists for Queens students, faculty and staff as well as the greater Charlotte community. Friends of Art at Queens has been successful in bringing some of the great artists of our time — including painter Philip Pearlstein, photorealist Chuck Close, and installation artists Judy Chicago and Christo & Jeanne-Claude — to Charlotte, and provides support for the Queens Art Department and its students by exposing them to artists shaping world opinion.
