The Byrum Endowed Scholarship Challenge
In 2011, Porter B. Byrum gave $20.9 million - the largest single gift in Queens' history - to support endowed scholarships. Mr. Byrum himself received a college scholarship, which inspired him to extend that opportunity to students for generations to come.
To further magnify the impact of Mr. Byrum's gift, Queens University of Charlotte is issuing the Byrum Endowed Scholarship Challenge. Through this challenge, $5 million will be offered as 1:1 match to donors who make a new commitment of $50,000 or more to a new or existing endowed scholarship fund.
Now, the Byrum Endowed Scholarship Challenge can double the impact of your gift.
The Byrum Challenge offers donors the unprecedented opportunity to double the impact of their own legacy. Your endowed scholarship fund, named for your family or the honoree of your choice, will endure for generations, enabling students to achieve their dreams through a Queens' education.
As of June 30, 2012, twelve donors have taken advantage of the Byrum Challenge, creating nearly $4 million in new endowed scholarship funds. The Challenge will remain active through October, 2013 or until the matching fund is expended.
