Our Mission

The Hayes Living learning Community (LLC) provides meaningful leadership development and community outreach opportunities to first-year students. Through reflection, communication, and fairness, we create an environment of mutual trust, respect, and inclusion to meet the Queen's motto: "not to be served, but to serve."

What is a Living Learning Community?

A living learning community (LLC) is a housing option for residential students to live amongst others with like-minded interests, goals, and/or passions. Student Life staff build special programs and activities for students in an LLC to make their living experience impactful and memorable, and offer a chance for students to discover more about themselves. Queens students who have chosen to live in our LLC, The Sed Min Household, have told us they are more satisfied with their on campus experience. Being a part of such a community allows students to expand their horizons through self- and community-exploration.

What is the Sed Min Household?

The Sed Min Household is a Living Learning Community (LLC) centered on developing students into passionate leaders who serve their community and each other. Throughout the year, we focus on leadership and personal development, as well as community outreach programs to provide a one-of-a-kind living experience for first-year students. This community is found within Hayes Residence Hall on Queens' campus, and offers a small, home away from home feel that allows residents to build strong relationships and connections with each other. Being a part of this program is application based, and sign-ups begin during the summer during housing registration. For more information, download a copy of our brochure here.

What makes this experience unique?

Giving Back Giving back to the greater community is the heart of this Living Learning Community. In partnership with the Center for Active Citizenship, students will have access to non-profits from all over the Charlotte area such as Habitat for Humanity, Ronald McDonald House, Crisis Assistance Ministries and more!

Development Our number one priority is the student experience. Being a part of the Sed Min Household offers a chance for students to learn more about themselves as individuals, as team members, and as leaders. Residents have the opportunity to engage in personal and leadership development, while finding what passions drive them to be better. Professional staff and student leaders assist students in setting goals and strategic plans throughout the year to attain those goals.

Community Sed Min Household students live in Hayes Residence Hall - a beautiful, historic building on Queens' campus. Being the only first-year community that offers suite-style accommodations for its residents, Hayes is a two-story hall that allows for special relationships to form for up to sixty-five residents.
