Funderburk Publishes Poetry, MFA Faculty Named Genius Award Winners
The English and Creative Writing Department and the MFA Department have much to be proud of this year. Julie Funderburk, assistant professor of English and creative writing, published her debut poetry collection, "The Door that Always Opens." Two MFA faculty, poet Claudia Rankine and playwright Branden Jacobs-Jenkins, were named among the 23 McArthur Genius Award fellows. Over fifteen publications and submissions and over seven conference presentations and essays composed by the department's faculty were accepted. Read More
Davis and Gatterdam Awarded for Philanthropy
Davis was recognized as the year's Outstanding Fundraising Executive, an award for leadership encompasses integrity, talent and dedication in fundraising. Davis has raised over $125 million for Queens. Alumna Kate Gatterdam received the award for Outstanding Student Philanthropist. Read More
General Hayden and Sir John Scarlett Discuss National Security at Learning Society Event
On Tuesday, The Learning Society and Queens community welcomed General Michael Hayden, former CIA and NSA director, and Sir John Scarlett, former chief of the British Secret Intelligence Service, as they discuss geopolitical hot spots and the confluence of cyber security, privacy and national security. Dr. Lyons Named 2016 North Carolina Sport Management Coalition Educator of the Year
Students speak very highly of Dr. Lyons and credit a lot of their accomplishments at Queens to him due to his willingness to push students past their potential. Read More
Queens Begins Construction on Region’s First World-Class Field Hockey Facility
The Queens Sports Complex in Marion Diehl Park is home to the university's Royals field hockey program, introduced in 2016, and to Charlotte Ambush youth field hockey club. Ambush oversees 18 school programs, as well as more than 300 youth in recreation league and select programs. Queens also shares the field space and other Sports Complex facilities with Mecklenburg County. Read More
Artist Studio Project in collaboration with Queens University of Charlotte’s Everett Library, the Center for Latino Studies and the Department of World Languages is looking for literary writers, poets and songwriters inspired by the themes and topics explored in the literary masterpiece of 100 Years of Solitude written by Gabriel Garcia Marquez to commemorate the 50 years of its publication. Submissions are due January 31, 2017. View Event
