Ann Caulkins started her career with Knight Ridder in 1984 at the Forth Worth Star Telegram. In 2002, she joined The State in Columbia, S.C., as the first woman President and Publisher. She served as publisher for three years and earned a reputation as an agent of positive change.
In May 2006, at the age of 44, she joined the 120-year-old newspaper, The Charlotte Observer, with a national reputation for excellence and the largest readership in the Carolinas.
She currently serves on the Charlotte Chamber Board of Directors, the Levine Museum of the New South Board of Directors, the Charlotte Center City Partners Board of Directors and the Knight Foundation Charlotte Advisory Committee, the N.C. Conference for Women Board of Directors, the POST Board of Directors, the Charlotte Regional Partnership Board of Directors, Queens University Knight School of Communication Advisory Board, the Johnson C. Smith University Board of Visitors, Charlotte Country Day School Board of Trustees and the UNC-Chapel Hill School of Journalism Board of Directors.
She is married to Kelley Anderson, and their sons are Porter and Miller.
