Francisco J. Ayala

Covenant Presbyterian Church and The Center for Ethics and Religion at Queens proudly present Dr. Francisco J. Ayala, the 2010 Templeton Prize Laureate. Ayala is an international authority on molecular evolution and genetics. He has vigorously defended scientific theory from the influence of religious belief while also calling for mutual respect between the two. A naturalized American born in Spain, Ayala earned a Ph.D. from Columbia University after leaving the priesthood. His groundbreaking research into parasitic protozoa may lead to cures for malaria and other diseases. He is the Donald Bren Professor of Biological Sciences at the University of California, Irvine and a recipient of the National Medal of Science. He will speak at the fellowship hall of Covenant Presbyterian Church.
