McColl School of Business launches new masters program in executive coaching

Enroll now for classes to begin in May 2011.

 The McColl School of Business at Queens University of Charlotte is now enrolling students in the new Master of Science in Executive Coaching (MSEC) program to begin in May 2011.

The MSEC program is the first of its kind in North America. It is designed for working professionals who are interested in implementing executive coaching, designing and leading organizational change, and enhancing the effectiveness of leaders at all levels.  Students in the 24-month low-residency program will attend classes on the Queens campus in Charlotte, N.C., three times each year for eight consecutive days and otherwise learn through a variety of distance learning technologies.

"In any organization the operating budget is typically 30 to 60 percent human capital, so improving the ability of that asset to work better in a way that is aligned with organizational goals is certainly good for business," said John Bennett, director of the MSEC program at Queens.

Terry Broderick, dean of the McColl School of Business said, "Executive coaching is an appealing skill set and knowledge base for high performing leaders. This program will provide a tremendous return on investment for anyone who is charged with managing people and their organizations."

The MSEC program develops skilled change agents who are dedicated to improving personal and organizational performance through the use of applied behavioral science in planned change efforts.  It focuses on the following abilities needed to successfully support individual and team development and achievement of business outcomes:

  • Improving the productivity, performance, and satisfaction of individuals, and teams to achieve business results;
  • Collecting, analyzing, interpreting data and providing feedback;
  • Designing, implementing, and evaluating organizational change;
  • Evaluating outcomes and current levels of performance to manage executive coaching  efforts strategically;
  • Building and maintaining key partnerships to enhance business results aligned with strategic change initiatives;
  • Coaching individuals and teams for development and improved performance.

Although the program is appropriate for a diverse range of professionals, it will especially benefit those currently working as executive coaches, organization development consultants, human resources managers and generalists, training and development professionals and organizational effective managers.

"The conversations we have drive the actions we take and lead to the results we produce," Bennett said. "Coaching helps people have conversations and develop and take actions to achieve desired results. Part of effective coaching is the ability to figure out what you want to achieve and identifying how to get there."
