  • Internships must be completed in the academic term in which you expect to receive credit for the internship. The internship must begin on or after the official start date of the term and end before or on the official last day of the term.
  • Internships must primarily be completed at the internship site with direct employer supervision.
  • If you are completing two internships concurrently for different INT courses, the internship hours completed at one site cannot be applied to the other.
  • Late work policy: All assignments must be completed and turned in by the due date indicated in MyCourses.
  • Students must work until the end date specified on the Internship Contract even if you have fulfilled your required hours.
  • Hayworth students enroll in INT 405, a variable credit course. Hayworth students may receive 1-3 credits based solely on the number of work hours completed.  Hayworth advisors approve the credit hours permitted.
  • TUG students may enroll in INT 404 after completion of INT 401 and 402 OR INT 403 for additional internship credits 1-6 credits as approved by their academic advisor and based on proposed work hours.
  • It is the student's responsibility to alert Vandiver Center for Career Development of any changes to the number of credits he/she is registered for, submit a new contract and work with the employer on changed hours.

Queens additionally uses NACE (National Association of College and Employers) criteria to assess the legitimacy and value of a proposed internship experiences. To be considered a legitimate internship by the NACE definition, the following criteria must be met:

  • The experience must be an extension of the classroom: a learning experience that provides for applying the knowledge gained in the classroom. It must not be simply to advance the operations of the employer or be the work that a regular employee would routinely perform.
  • The skills or knowledge learned must be transferable to other employment settings.
  • The experience has a defined beginning and end, and a job description with desired qualifications.
  • There are clearly defined learning objectives/goals related to the professional goals of the student’s academic coursework.
  • There is supervision by a professional with expertise and educational and/or professional background in the field of the experience.
  • There is routine feedback by the experienced supervisor.
  • There are resources, equipment and facilities provided by the host employer that support learning objectives/goals.
