The essence of all education boils down to this: one-on-one interaction between student and teacher. Ask people what they remember about their education and they will undoubtedly tell you about a teacher who spent individual time and energy with them - a role model who had a profound effect on their life.
At Queens, our student-faculty ratio is 12:1 (no teaching assistants, by the way). Also, you will never find large, impersonal lecture halls and rarely a class of more than 25 students. Lectures to larger groups are always accompanied by small discussion groups of 12-15 students led by professors.
Five Queens faculty members have been honored as "North Carolina Professor of the Year" by the Carnegie Foundation for Teaching. Outstanding faculty coupled with 21 majors and a variety of concentrations (more than 50) all add up to an unmatched academic experience.
Queens University of Charlotte is proud to be one of the newest universities in the state to participate in the North Carolina Teaching Fellows Program. We are one of five private campuses and the only coed, private university located in a major metropolitan area. In fact, our location is one of the greatest aspects of our Teaching Fellows program. The Charlotte-Mecklenburg school system is the largest in the Carolina's, and provides our diverse student body many opportunities to enhance their preparation for a career in education.
What will you study?
If you are really seeking a challenge, the Honors Program is for you. In your freshman and sophomore years, you will take a series of seminars designed to expose you to a wide range of intellectual ideas. In your junior year, you will complete Directed Reading and Directed Study projects, designed to help you in selecting an area of study for your Honors Thesis. In your senior year, you will prepare and defend an Honors Thesis, an independent, creative project under the direction of a faculty mentor. Upon successful completion of the Honors Thesis, you will graduate with Honors and the phrase "With Honors Thesis" will be printed on your diploma — a tribute to your hard work and dedication.
