If you want to immerse yourself in life and be open to the possibilities around you and within you, then come to Queens. We have a place for you — and if we don't have exactly what you want, you can create it. Last year, students planned more than 150 events.
A few years ago, three enterprising Queens students decided they wanted to create a coffeehouse on campus. They made a proposal to the administration, wrote a business plan, got financial support from Queens alumni and next thing you knew, there it was! The Queens Common Grounds Coffeehouse.
Entering freshmen have the opportunity to apply for our "Emerging Leaders" program. Those students who successfully complete the first part of the program may continue in the "Leadership Fellows Program," which provides increasing numbers of opportunities for leadership on campus and for mentoring other students through their four years at Queens.
If it's stimulating speakers you want, check out who has been to Queens recently: Bill Gates, Mario Cuomo, Ralph Nader, Janet Reno, John Irving, Alan Keyes, Ben Cohen and Jerry Greenfield (Ben & Jerry's ice cream) and Steve Forbes.
Queens is more than just a place to live. It’s about making friends, lifelong memories and learning more about yourself in the process. Living on campus is the key to having a truly memorable experience.
For those with an adventurous spirit, we have an Outdoor Education Program that gets rave reviews. Hiking, camping, spelunking, skiing, rock climbing and kayaking — these are just a few of the opportunities available thanks to our ideal location in the heart of the Carolina Piedmont.
For those who prefer more structure, we have a range of intramural and recreational sports, an 8,000-square-foot fitness center, plus a year-long series of student plays, music recitals, art exhibits on campus and art "gallery crawls" in Charlotte.
In all that we do with our students, we try to reinforce the University motto: “Not to be served, but to serve.” Students, faculty and staff are active in Habitat for Humanity, “Room in the Inn,” and tutoring and mentoring young children, in addition to many other volunteer opportunities. Our students understand that the world is a big place and they have the opportunity and responsibility to make a difference.

What can you tell me about campus safety? Along with all the benefits of being situated in a safe, friendly, well-lit neighborhood (Myers Park), Queens provides the added security of a 24-hour Campus Police department and residence halls that require an access card for entry.
What comes in my room? Air conditioning, MicroFridge (microwave–refrigerator / freezer combo), ethernet connection, telephone service with voicemail and cable television (basic service is free of charge).
Will I be able to get online? Yes. All residence halls have ethernet connections and the Trexler Student Center, Morrison Dining Hall and Trexler Courtyard are wireless hot spots. There is a 24-hour computer lab in the Walker Science building. Additionally, there are computer labs with Internet access in each of the residence halls and in the library.
Where can I eat? Head over to the recently renovated campus dining hall for everything from salad, pizza and waffles to the entree of the day, or stop by Jazzman’s Cafe, the snack bar in Trexler Student Center, for a quick bite. The Lion's Den is the popular new grille and gameroom on campus where students can gather to grab a burger and play a game of pool. The Common Grounds Coffeehouse is also a good place to grab coffee and a muffin as you’re rushing to class.
Is there a health center on campus? Yes. The Health and Wellness Center on campus provides a professional staff who offer health and counseling services to full-time students who have health coverage.
