Since the birth of the men’s soccer program in 1990, Fred Norchi has been the head coach for Queens University of Charlotte. In his 18 years of coaching the Royals, he has compiled a 221-77-18 overall record and a 108-19-7 Carolinas-Virginia Athletics Conference (CVAC) record. These statistics put him in the Top 10 among NCAA Division II men’s soccer coaches.
Most recently Coach Norchi and the 2006 men's soccer team advanced to the NCAA Elite Eight Tournament after finishing the regular season as CVAC Champions and Southeast Region Champions. He has led the Royals to a total of four NCAA Tournament appearances (2006, 2004, 2002 and 1999), owns six CVAC Tournament titles, and eight regular season conference championships. Coach Norchi has coached numerous all-CVAC players, CVAC players of the year, and all-Americans throughout his tenure at Queens.
Coach Norchi’s success as a coach has been recognized by both the NCAA and the CVAC. At the completion of the 2006 season he was named NCAA Division II Southeast Region Coach of the Year receiving this award for the fifth time. The CVAC also named Norchi CVAC Coach of the Year for the 5th year in a row, a total of six times he has received this recognition. Coach Norchi was also a finalist for the NCAA Division II men's soccer Coach of the Year in 1994. Currently, Coach Norchi is ranked 7th All-time in Division II men's soccer by winning percentage and 7th in overall victories.
A year before taking over the men’s program, Norchi pioneered the women’s soccer team. As the true founder of Royals soccer, he simultaneously coached the men’s and women’s programs for seven years. Norchi is especially proud of the fine young men and women his graduates have become when they leave Queens.
Norchi is a graduate of East Stroudsburg State University (Penn.), and his coaching career began at Porter-Gaud School in Charleston, S.C. A native of Smithtown, N.Y., Norchi graduated from Hauppage High School in New York. Now a resident of Charlotte, Coach Norchi is the proud father of his 13-year old son, Matt.
Royals Soccer History

Completing his first season here as an assistant coach Oliver Carias helped lead the 2006 Royals to an outstanding season finish. Returning to the men's soccer program he once played for Carias is no stranger to being a part of a championship team. With his leadership and skills as a player, the Royals are fortunate to have the coaching contributions and experience of Carias.
Oliver's outstanding abilities were evident during his play here at Queens. Ranked as one of the top 5 soccer players in the nation by USA TODAY (NCAA) Oliver helped carry the Queens team to the NCAA tournament in 2002 and 2004. In 2003 he was ranked the #1 soccer player in North and South Carolina by the Charlotte Observer, the same year Queens maintained an undefeated regular season. The honors for Carias are abundant including making All-American status and Freshman of the Year in 2001, CVAC Player of the Year in 2003, and was selected for the All Southeast Regional Team 2001-2004. As a key playmaker for Queens he was the NCAA-DII National Leader in assists for 2002 and was 2nd in the nation in points per game in 2003.
Carias' talent was clearly portrayed throughout his career at Queens. A native of Guatemala, Oliver also has exceptional international experience. As a member of the Guatemalan Soccer National Team he has played in 57 international games and visited 27 different countries. Carias has participated in the U-17 and U-20 Pre-World Cup, the Central American Games, Central and Caribbean Games, Pan-American Games, and the Pre-Olympic Games. With his extensive knowledge in the world of soccer, the mens' team is excited to have an experienced player like Oliver serving the role as assistant coach to the Queens program.
