CHARLOTTE, N.C. (October 1, 2007) — Queens University of Charlotte has hired Mr. Brett Karpman ‘06 as head coach of its Royals men’s tennis team, one of 16 NCAA Division II teams on the University’s campus. Karpman returns to his alma mater to coach the tennis team where he previously played and garnered much success.
“I would like to thank Queens’ Athletics Director Jeannie King for her vision and leadership; this is an exciting time for Queens and am honored to be a part of an outstanding athletic department,” said Karpman. “Queens presents a terrific balance of education and athletics in the City of Charlotte. The opportunities and resources open to Queens’ students is outstanding and as a graduate of Queens I am a true believer in the quality and merit of its education and the overall student-athlete experience.”
A native of Montreal, Canada, Karpman works as a strength and conditioning consultant for Elite International and American juniors. He previously worked with The University of North Carolina at Wilmington (UNCW) as an assistant coach for the Seahawks tennis team, leading the team to their first win over a nationally-ranked team since the program’s inception. There, he helped recruit players from around the nation for the UNCW men’s tennis team, while helping the Seahawks compile their best season in the University’s history (14-6 in the CAA). Prior to this position, Karpman worked with Adidas Inc. as the coordinator of its tennis camps. He has also coached North Carolina’s top-rising junior players.
Karpman received a bachelor’s of science degree from Queens in 2006. As an undergraduate student he participated in Queens’ varsity tennis program from 2002 – 2004. While playing for the Royals tennis team he was named a National Presidential Scholar Athlete and served as the assistant coach from 2004-2006. During his time at Queens, Karpman was a recipient of the John Sykes Trustee Scholarship.
“We are extremely thrilled to have Brett back on campus and serving with the Queens family community,” said King. “His passion and energy about leading student-athletes and coaching tennis is the right combination for moving our program to the next level. Queens is fortunate to have Brett at the leadership helm.”
