The Joseph W. Grier Jr. Distinguished Professor Award was established in honor of the former chairman of the Queens University of Charlotte board of trustees.
Nominations for this award are solicited from members of the board of trustees and the alumni board, from faculty, staff and administration, as well as from representatives of the Student Government Association. The recipient must have made an outstanding contribution to Queens University of Charlotte and the teaching and learning process.
The 2004 recipient is a gifted professor who has given much to Queens. Students describe a caring and passionate person who challenges them to do their best, a knowledgeable scholar, and a person who is dedicated to the Queens Community. This professor spends countless hours with students in his office, discussing class work and politics.
This professor holds the B.A. degree from California State University, the M.A. from the University of Arizona, and the PhD. from the University of Washington. After teaching at the University of Washington, he joined the Queens faculty in 1990.
He has served Queens well as team leader in the Core Program in the Liberal Arts, as a study tour leader on trips to China and Tibet in the John Belk International Program, and as a guiding force in the International Studies major. In all these roles, this professor has far exceeded the call of duty and has won the gratitude and admiration of students.
With great pride and gratitude for this faculty member's many outstanding contributions, Queens University of Charlotte is pleased to name as the Joseph W. Grier Jr. Distinguished Professor for 2004:
