CHARLOTTE, N.C. (May 7, 2005) The Hunter-Hamilton Love of Teaching Award seeks out and honors teachers whose way of life uniquely inspires the full potential of each student. This award is given to a Queens University of Charlotte faculty member judged by his or her peers to display an exemplary love of teaching.
As a professor of mathematics Dr. Quinn brings to her profession not only extraordinary teaching skill, but a zest and joy in teaching so that her students write that she "radiated how much she loved teaching mathematics. Seldom does one see such devotion and passion."
Moreover, she has the ability to help students of all ages find abilities where they thought there were none. One student wrote, "Dr. Quinn's enthusiasm and confidence in each students ability to learn and apply mathematics enables us to succeed beyond our expectations." With patience and utmost respect for each student she has helped them succeed in what is, for many, a feared and difficult subject. As one student stated, she "translates mathematics into English. Such a difficult subject has never been so easy to comprehend." Another student wrote, "Math has always frightened me but with her assistance she taught me appreciation for mathematics and how very important it is in our lives."
The lessons that Dr. Quinn teaches extend beyond mathematics. As one student wrote, "Dr. Quinn treated us with such respect and dignity that I began to develop a confidence and pride about what I was doing. While I may never feel the same excitement as Dr. Quinn about working with equations, she has given me something even more valuable. She has restored my own belief in my abilities. She has shown me that my past experiences no longer need to dictate my future. She has given me a sense of esteem about my capabilities. For that I can never repay her."
For twenty-five years Dr. Quinn has quietly and skillfully taught students at Queens with love and dedication to believe in themselves and succeed where they did not think they could. She has established a legacy of caring for students and of pursuing excellence for her students and for herself.
