Queens University of Charlotte announces its Master of School Administration (MSA) program to begin in January, 2009.
The MSA degree leads to North Carolina Licensure at the Principal level (K-12) as part of a graduate degree. The MSA is designed for candidates who hold a current, non-provisional North Carolina teaching license, and who have had a minimum of five years of successful teaching experience.

What Makes the Queens Program Unique?
The innovative MSA program at Queens places an emphasis on the development of practical leadership skills. The McColl School of Business leadership and organizational development model is a critical part of our innovative approach to developing school leaders.
MSA students at Queens are developed based upon our vision of the 21st Century school leader. Development of the school leader at Queens involves the extensive use of simulations, clinical practice of specific skill sets, and the use of coaches and mentors. Emphasis is placed upon the needs of suburban and urban school districts.
A few key areas of this innovative program include a cohort model approach, training in conflict and crisis management, and the development of the future leader as a school executive with mission critical decision-making skills that are responsive to communities’ needs.
The faculty has been carefully selected to provide strength in those areas that are critical for a well-rounded education program. Additionally, a low student-to-faculty ratio assures individual attention for all students in interactive classes that emphasize application of the topics presented.

When Are Classes Held?
Classes are held one night a week on campus, and there will also be an online component to each class that can be completed off campus.
During that one evening, a student will take 2 classes. As an example, during the first semester, on Mondays students will take Educational Leadership from 6:00 - 7:25 pm and then will take Supervision of Instruction from 7:30 - 8:55 pm. Additional work for each of these classes will be completed online.
This enables the student to come to the Queens campus only one night a week.

All classes, 39 credits, can be completed in five (5) semesters. The following indicate which classes the cohort of students in the program take each semester. Students receive three (3) hours credit for each of these courses.

What Do I Need To Do To Be Admitted To the Program?
• Complete the graduate application.
• Submit official transcripts from each college or university attended in sealed envelopes.
• Submit 2 letters of recommendation from current or previous supervisors or a letter of nomination from your school
system.
• Have satisfactory scores (790 combined) on the Graduate Record Exam.
• Provide a copy of a non-provisional North Carolina Teaching License.
• Show evidence of 5 years of successful teaching experience.
• Submit an original writing sample.
Students then will be admitted through a competitive process.
You may attend one semester with a transcript indicating awarding of a bachelors degree and without taking the GRE. You may not register for a second term without completing all admissions requirements.

What All Must I Do To Receive My State License?
Queens University of Charlotte must meet all national and state mandates in order to retain program approval. Candidates must fulfill all national and state requirements in place at the time of application for licensure. In order to meet the requirements for licensure in the state of North Carolina, completion of requirements for the MSA program and a passing score of at least 155 on the School Leadership Licensure Assessment based upon the Interstate School Leadership Licensure Consortium (ISLLC) criteria are required as well as any additional requirements mandated by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction.
