WHO: Dr. Robert W. Whalen
WHAT: As the featured speaker at the annual Friends of the Library at Queens’ Fall Event, Dr. Whalen will be presenting excerpts from his third book, "Sacred Spring: God and the Birth of Modernism in Fin de Siecle Vienna," released in April by Eerdmans Publishing Company. Written in an engaging narrative style, this book presents and examines Viennese culture and the era around the beginning of the 20th Century.
Currently Dr. Whalen, chair of Queens’ History Department, serves as the Carolyn G. and Sam H. McMahon, Jr., Professor of History. In 1996 the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) in Washington, D.C., and the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching in Princeton, N.J., named Dr. Whalen North Carolina's Professor of the Year.

CONTACT: The Fall Event will be free to members of the Friends of the Library with a $10 charge for non-members. Refreshments will be served prior to the event. If a non-member wishes to join the Friends of the Library organization, the $10 admission charge will be applied toward the $35 membership fee for 2008-2009.
