Your prep class will require that you learn the basics about the region and country you will be traveling in. Start early and learn as much as you can about cities, rivers, mountains and other geographical features.
Learn your geography and have some fun with the map quizzes on Shepard's Software site. Just choose a continent and then pick a game and level.
WorldAtlas.com has great regional maps that allow you to show landforms, bodies of water, capitals, etc. There are also blanks version you can print to test your knowledge!
The site for National Geographic is wonderful--check out their Atlas page with b/w printable maps for world, regions and countries or play around with their Map Machine page that "gives you the world--your way."
Altapedia also has both physical and political maps for all countries, often with the surrounding region included.
