Syllabus for JBIP 210.001 (Prep Course) Fall Term 08
This 11-day study tour will introduce students to the fascinating, brilliant world of ancient Greece, "the cradle of Western civilization." Upon arriving in Athens, students will transfer by coach to the picturesque seaside village of Napflion, where they will visit the stunning remains of Mycenaean civilization—Agamemnon's stronghold at Mycenae, Theseus's fortress at Tiryns, and the stunning theater of Epidaurus. Then the group travels to the world of Classical Greece, via Corinth and through the mountains to Delphi, home of the oracle of Apollo—sites here include the Sanctuary of Delphi, the Temple of Apollo and the Theatre of Dionysus. Concluding the program in Athens, students will visit important classical sites such as the Parthenon and the Acropolis, the National Archeological Museum, the Museum of Cycladic and Ancient Greek Art (both of which hold the world’s most outstanding collections) and the Pláka, Sýntagma Square and Monastiráki. A day-trip to the lovely, car-free island of Hydra will let students explore this Athenian getaway spot and artists’ colony.
