This study tour focuses on ancient and modern Celtic culture, dividing the program between Ireland and the UK. From storm-swept coastlines and the rough-hewn beauty of towering cliffs to the centuries-old ruins and ancient mysteries of Celtic monasteries; from the quaint charm of country cottages, lush farmland, and landscapes in multiple shades of green to the historical urban centers of Dublin and Edinburgh, this program provides the opportunity to have an unforgettable experience in Scotland, Wales and Ireland. The tour will begin in the West Highlands of Scotland, using Inverness as its base. Here the group will have a chance to spot “Nessie” in her natural habitat and take in the sites in and around the town, including the Stones of Clava, the Clock Tower, Abertarff House and Saint Andrew’s Cathedral. Traveling via the highland lakes, students will head south to Edinburgh known as one of the “fairest cities in Europe” where students will explore the Castle which dominates the city and is unequalled in the whole of the British Isles. A stroll along the Royal Mile and visits to some of the city’s museums (including the National Gallery of Scotland, the Portrait Gallery and the Writer’s Museum) will round out the time spent here. From Scotland the group will travel south to North Wales to visit its castles and villages and explore the mountains and beautiful pass of Snowdonia. The tour will then travel by ferry over to Ireland, where students will experience both the historical and the mythical, with visits to numerous important locations that will lead to an unforgettable experience of the Emerald Isle. The group will visit the Hill of Tara, Sligo, Yeats’ country, Galway, the Aran Islands and more. The tour will conclude in historic Dublin, with its many attractions including Trinity College, Kilmainham Gaol, the National Museum and Saint Patrick’s Cathedral. |
