The Italian Government Tourist Board has a nice website with links to museums, specific information on the different regions, travel tips and more.
Italy Magazine--"the No. 1 Magazine for Lovers of all things Italian" covers a broad range of topics. While you probably aren't in the market for a property in Italy or planning your wedding there, you can find good articles on current events and explore the regions of Italy.
An illustrated guide to the sacred places and art, religious architecture and sites--from Amalfi to Venice--can be found at on the Sacred Destinations site.
For more current events, check out the Corriere della sera in its English-language online version. This is Italy's most prominent newspaper and the series of articles published here will keep you up to date on the lastest happenings in the country. RomePost.com also has articles on politics, culture, sports and more.
For the tech-savvy crowd, the Italy Guides site has audio down-loads and virtual tours of most of the great architecture, museums and churches. Lovely pictures and brief descriptions.
For the great museums of Italy, there are a number of good sites.
Florence:
Check out the entire collection of the Uffizi Gallery--along with biographical information on the artists--at the Virtual Uffizi site. The Florence Art Guide has information on all of the important historical and artistic monuments and museums of the city. For all of the other 70 museums, the MuseumsinFlorence site provides detailed information and images.
Rome:
The Vatican Museum Online site has pictures, virtual tours, and more. The wonderful Borghese Gallery site includes pictures and information on both artists and their works. There is also a very detailed site on the Catacombs of Rome.
Venice: The Guggenheim Museum site has information on the collection housed in Peggy Guggenheim's former palace along the Grand Canal.
