Tue, May 9 

Be at the Delta check-in at the Charlotte Airport no later than 11:30! [Allow plenty of time for security.]  Depart Charlotte 2:40 pm, DL #1001, for Atlanta (arrives 3:59 pm).   Depart Atlanta 5:15 pm, DL #70, for Rome.

Wed, May 10 

Arrive Rome 8:55 am.  Transfer to hotel via train/tram.  Afternoon: after hotel check-in, Rome walkabout – Campo dei Fiori, Piazza Navona, Piazza della Rotonda, the Pantheon, San Luigi dei Francesi, Santa Maria Sopra Minerva, St. Ignazio di Loyola, Marcus Aurelius's Column, Trevi Fountain, Spanish Steps     

Thu, May 11 

Rome: 8:40 am, leave hotel for visit to Campidoglio, Capitoline Museums, Mamertine Prison, Imperial and Roman Fora, Colosseum, Arch of Constantine, San Pietro in Vincoli (Moses).   

Fri, May 12 

Rome: 8:00 am, leave hotel for St. Peter's, the Vatican Museums, & Sistine Chapel. [Reminder: St. Peter's has a strict dress code--no shorts, skirts above the knee, or bare-shoulders.]  

Sat, May 13 

Rome: 7:50 am, leave hotel with luggage for train to Florence, departing Rome at 9:00 am, arriving in Florence at 10:37 am.  After hotel check-in, Florence walkabout & orientation via Mercato Centrale, San Lorenzo, Piazza San Giovanni, Orsanmichele, Piazza della Signoria, Ponte Vecchio, & Mercato Nuovo.  Afternoon: Santa Croce, Bargello Museum and Santa Maria del Carmine (Reservation at 4:15).

Sun, May 14 

Florence: 8:00 am, leave hotel for Duomo, Baptistry and Accademia (Reservation at 10:30).  Afternoon: Uffizi Gallery (Reservation at 4:15).

Mon, May 15 

Florence: 8:50 am, leave hotel for Museo dell’Opera del Duomo and Medici Chapels.  Afternoon: EXPLORE FLORENCE –Giotto's Campanile (414 steps to the top), Palazzo Medici Ricardi (Gozzoli's magnificent Three Magi fresco), Museo Firenze Com'era (large models, aerial views, scenes of the city through the ages), Museo di Storia della Scienza (awesome science stuff, Galileo's tools, etc.), Pitti Palace, Boboli Gardens, Badia (art treasures by Lippi, etc.), Museo della Chiesa di San Marco (convent cells, famous paintings, courtyard), Archeological Museum, Michelangelo’s Studio, Santa Maria Novella, Palazzo Strozzi (courtyard), Dante’s House (most in Italian).

Tue, May 16 

Florence: 6:45 am, leave hotel with luggage for train trip to Nice.  (Departs Florence at 7:51 am, arrives in Genoa at 11:08 am; departs Genoa at 12:55 pm, arrives in Nice at 4:01 pm).  After hotel check-in, Nice walkabout and orientation. 

Wed, May 17 

Nice: 8:28 am, leave hotel for Promenade des Anglais, Place Masséna, Cours Saleya (morning market), Vieux Nice, Colline du château.  Afternoon: train to Cannes. 

Thu May 18 

Nice: 8:30 am, leave hotel for visit to visit to Chagall Museum and Matisse Museum.  Afternoon: EXPLORE NICE -- Russian Cathedral, Musée d’Art moderne et d’art contemporaine, Musée Masséna (City museum), Musée des Beaux Arts, beaches.

Fri, May 19 

Nice: 7:00 am, leave hotel with luggage for coach trip (Santa Azur Autocars) to Arles via Avignon (Palais des Papes, Dom du Rocher, Pont St. Bénézet).  Late afternoon: continue on to Arles; after hotel check-in, walkabout and orientation. 

Sat, May 20 

Arles: 8:40 am, leave hotel for day-trip to Nimes via Pont du Gard.  Afternoon: visit to Maison carrée, Arena, Temple of Diana.
               
Sun, May 21 

Arles: 8:49 am, leave hotel for Musée de l’Arles antique, Forum Square.  Afternoon:  St. Trophime, Théâtre antique, Amphithéâtre, Musée Arlatan.
 
Mon, May 22 

Arles: 8:00 am, leave hotel with luggage for coach trip (Autocares Canals, SA) to Barcelona.  After hotel check-in, Barcelona walkabout and orientation. 

Tue, May 23 

Barcelona: 8:30 am, leave hotel for visit to Las Ramblas, Barrio Gótico, Cathedral, Picasso Museum.  Afternoon:  EXPLORE BARCELONA – La Boquería (huge food market), Columbus Monument, Barceloneta, Maritime Museum, City History Museum, Montjuic, Catalan Concert Hall, Catalan Art Museum, Fundación Tapiès and, of course, tapas!

Wed, May 24 

Barcelona: 9:00 am, leave hotel for Casa Mila, Isla de la Discordia, La Sagrada Familia and Parque Guell.

Thu, May 25 

Barcelona:  9:00 am, leave hotel for Fundación Miró.  Afternoon: EXPLORE BARCELONA – see list above.

Fri, May 26 

Barcelona: 5:30 am!!!!,  leave hotel hotel with luggage for train trip to Madrid.  Train departs Barcelona at7:03 am, arriving Lerida at 8:53 am; departs Lerida at 10:01 am, arriving in Madrid at 11:48 am.  After hotel check-in, walkabout and orientation (Plaza Mayor, Puerta del Sol, Gran Via, etc).  

Sat, May 27  

Madrid: 8:45 am, leave hotel for visit to the Prado.  Afternoon:  Palacio Real.

Sun, May 28 

Madrid:  9:30 am, leave hotel for Centro Arte  de Reina Sofia (Picasso’s Guernica).  Afternoon:  EXPLORE MADRID – Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum, Retiro Park, Cathedral of Almudena, National Archeological Museum, Chapel San Antonio de la Florida (Goya’s tomb), El Rostro market, Plaza de Toros (Bullfighting), Royal Tapestry Museum, Moncloa Tower (views of Madrid).

Mon, May 29 

Madrid: 7:30 leave hotel for Madrid Airport (AeroCITY).  Depart Madrid 11:25 am, DL #109, for Atlanta, arriving 3:05 pm.  Depart Atlanta 5:00 pm, DL #590, for Charlotte (arrives 6:10 pm).
