Tentative Activities Calendar
Day 1: Arrive Johannesburg to be met by Sale Travel Services rep and helped with the connection to Cape Town.
Day 2: This morning you will be collected by African Eagle at 09:00 am, and then visit the District 6 museum-this is the area on the edge of town that was the centre of forced removals in the 1950’s. After that, you will be taken into some of the Townships areas, and lunch will be arranged.
Day 3: You will be collected by Centurion at 08:15 to be at the Castle of Good Hope at 08:45 for 09:00 tour. Tour finishes, then look round the Museums. Collection from outside the Castle for transfer to Chris Hani School and start of service project.
Day 4: 8:30 am departure time for Service project. Evening: Group dinner at Mama Africa’s.
Day 5: 8:30 am departure time for Service project.
Day 6: 9:45 am departure time for Worship service in Langa, followed by visit to a market and the beach. Return to hotel and meet at 4:00 pm in Conference room—lecture on economics and development.
Day 7: 8:30 am am departure time for Service project.
Day 8: 8:30 am am departure time for Service project.
Day 9: 9:00 am departure with African Eagle for a guided full day tour around the Cape Winelands. You will visit Spier, a historic wine estate with pretty old buildings and loads of interesting things on the go, including cheetah research and birds of prey, and then Stellenbosch-a top University town and centre of the wine industry. Then cross the Helshoogte Pass and head for Franschhoek, which has developed a French culture going back to the original Huguenot settlers. Witness the wine making process, from the vineyard to the bottle, and taste cheeses. Have lunch in town at own account, and then return via Paarl, a different scenic route to Cape Town.
Day 10: At 08:15 am you will be collected by Centurion to be at the Nelson Mandela Gateway at the Clocktower Precinct, for the 09:00 morning tour to Robben Island. You should be back around 12:30. Own arrangement for lunch, and then visit the Aquarium. You will be collected at 16:00 at the bus parking bay outside the Aquarium for return to the hotel. Evening: visit and dinner at the Gold Museum.
Day 11: Today is another African Eagle full day guided tour, leaving at around 09:00, heading all the way to Cape Point and back. The Cape Peninsula is very beautiful, and you will see many towns, beaches, mountains and maybe even some animals in the Cape Point Nature Reserve. Included are a visit to the African Penguin Colony and the mythical meeting place of the two great oceans to experience the “Fairest Cape of all”. You will be back between 5:00 and 6:00 pm.
Day 12: If the weather is good, this morning you will be collected by Centurion at 09:00 and taken to the Cable Car to go to the top of Table Mountain, and spend some time up there. DON’T leave main tracks! At 12:00 you will be taken to the Waterfront for a free afternoon.
Day 13: EARLY RISING!! You will be collected at the early hour of 04:45 for the transfer by Centurion for check in at Cape Town airport for Kulula flight to Johannesburg. Here, you will be met by Sale Travel Services rep Gareth and helped with the connection to a coach for the transfer to Nelspruit at 12:10, where you will be met by Tim for the transfer to Shalati Adventure Lodge, a community partnership lodge on the edge of the Manyeleti Game Reserve, part of the Greater Kruger National Park. All meals plus activities mentioned are included
Day14: EARLY RISING!! This morning you will be taken into the Manyeleti, for a game drive in open vehicles with rangers. After that, you will be taken through the bush on foot, learning the ways of the animals, and maybe encountering some en route. Shalati, all meals.
Day 15: EARLY RISING!! Today you will have morning learning more about the local bush environment-some tracking, animal noises, identifying trees, star gazing and an information session on medicinal healing. Then in the afternoon you will have a bush walk in the Manyeleti, followed by an afternoon game drive. Shalati-all meals.
Day 16: EARLY RISING!! Morning game drive, with an evening game drive to finish off the bush experience! Shalati –all meals. It’s a full day in a coach to Johannesburg, with stops for refreshments en route.
Day 17: 9:00 am departure time for a full day with guide visiting Soweto and the Apartheid Museum. Lunch will be at own account,
Day 18: Leave at 09:30 am for the visit to Maropeng; arrive by 11:00 at the Cradle of Humankind-early hominids etc. You will go down into the Caves at Sterkfontein where many of the original discoveries were made that changed the accepted theories of evolution. Snack lunch at own account, en route. Afternoon: Sandton City Mall area.
Day 19: Visit Rosebank Flea Market on way to check in at Johannesburg for return to Charlotte at 10:11 am, the next morning.
