The beaches of Normandy that we visited today were a very emotional experience for a lot of us. There is so much energy in the air, that it is almost impossible not to feel emotion about WWII, because this is the place where D-Day occurred.
Omaha and Utah beaches both were difficult to visit. Pointe-de-Hoc was the place where soldiers scaled cliffs in the face of enemy fire. The cliffs were so steep, we could barely believe that something like that could ever be done.
Although littered with craters from cannon and gun fire, the area was oddly peaceful, much like a cemetery. White daisies littered the fields, and remnants of the guns that were once placed there by the Germans still remained. The edges of the daisies, however, were stained a purple-red underneath. Not all places are what they seem...
The Bayeux Tapestry was our destination today! The tapestry, which is really an embroidery, is quite unbelievable. Hundreds of years old, the tapestry illustrates the Battle of Hastings beautifully and faithfully. What a wonderful experience!
The Giverny Gardens of Monet are gorgeous! Today, en route to Paris, we stopped at the historic home of the famous artist, Claude Monet. Within the gardens, we got to see the incredible bridge across a pond of waterlilies, the site of the famous painting. We cannot wait, however, to see the actual painting in the Louvre of Paris, as the painting is not located at the residence of Monet.
Finalement, nous allons à Paris!!!
