Ciao from Italy once more! Everything is molto bene with the group.
Our vist to Il Lebbio vineyards was great fun. The owner of the winery gave us a tour and explained the winemaking process; his mother put out platters of homemade prosciutto, salami, pecorino cheese, and garlic toast; his nephew set out glasses, and we all got to sample some of the wonderful chianti and vernazzia wines made in the San Gimignano region.
Students have been exploring Venice for the last two days, straining their necks to see the magnificent mosaics in San Marco and climbing to the top of the church to look down on the piazza that Napoleon called "the most elegant drawing room in Europe." Several even went to mass in San Marco this morning with two group leaders — we were trying to get in the wrong door when a kind gentleman appeared out of nowhere and led us right into the middle of the service!
We'll be boarding a Eurostar train in an hour for the three-hour ride to Florence. We'll let you know about what we do in the "birthplace of the Renaissance" in our next installment.
Arrivederci!
