The John Belk International Program offers Queens students the opportunity to have a semester or a year's study abroad in Hong Kong, Australia, or Northern Ireland. Admission to these three programs is through a competitive selection process.
Through a special arrangement with Hong Kong Baptist University, Queens students may study at that university during the fall and/or spring terms for the same cost as their regular semester(s) at Queens, with financial aid (scholarships and loans) in effect as if they were studying on campus in Charlotte. Hong Kong Baptist University is a prominent 49-year-old academic institution with an enrollment of more than 7000 students and a cosmopolitan faculty of approximately 400. Queens students have a wide choice of courses in English from the extensive HKBU curriculum. Admission to this program is through a competitive selection process which requires a minimum GPA of 3.500.
Through a special exchange arrangement with the University of the Sunshine Coast in Queensland,
Australia, students may study at that university during the fall and/or spring terms for the same cost as their regular semester(s) at Queens. The University of the Sunshine Coast (two hours from Brisbane, on the eastern coast) is the newest of the major Australian universities; in only nine years, it has grown into prominence with almost 4000 undergraduates, an outstanding staff of 400, and more than 60 undergraduate and postgraduate programs in the areas of Arts and Social Sciences, Science, and Business. Admission to this special exchange program with the University of the Sunshine Coast is through a competitive selection process which requires a minimum GPA of 3.500.
Through special arrangements with the Irish/American Scholars Program and the Northern Ireland Business Education Initiative, qualified Queens students may have the opportunity to study at either Queens University, Belfast, or the University of Ulster. (There are also special exchange arrangements with the Sligo Institute of Technology in the Republic of Ireland.) Students may enroll for either one term or for a full academic year; the cost is virtually the same as if they were studying on campus in Charlotte (again, with scholarships and loans in effect). Admission is through a highly competitive selection process which requires a minimum GPA of 3.500.
As with the JBIP international internships, students who are interested in any of these exchange programs are encouraged to prepare well in advance by maintaining an excellent academic record and developing substantial credentials.
Queens students may, of course, study abroad — outside the John Belk International Program — at other foreign universities that do not have a special exchange arrangement with Queens.
