Historical Note: Chicora College was founded as the Presbyterian Female Seminary in Greenville, SC, on September 30, 1893. That school failed and was reorganized as Chicora College for Young Ladies in 1898. The college remained in Greenville until the fall of 1915. At that time, Chicora moved to Columbia, SC, into the property formerly occupied by the College for Women, and the name became Chicora College for Women.
The College for Women began in 1890 as the Presbyterian College for Women. In 1910, the name of the school was changed to College for Women. When the school closed in 1915, the Presbyterian Church offered the property to the trustees of Chicora College. The campus was moved from Greenville to Columbia.
In 1930, the Presbyterian Synod of South Carolina recommended that Chicora College be merged with Queens College. From 1930 through 1939, Queens College was known as Queens-Chicora College.

PROVENANCE
The Archives for Queens University of Charlotte were established by Rena Chambers Harrell, first librarian for Queens University of Charlotte, and were maintained by the staff of Everett Library. While every effort was made to obtain and preserve materials relating to the history of the college, the Archives were not systematically organized prior to 1989. After Hurricane Hugo struck Charlotte in September of 1989, the college was able to have the materials in the archives boxed and inventoried. A preliminary list of materials in the Archives was prepared, and that list has formed the basis for work with the collection in place before 1997.
The following volumes were donated to the collection:
