The Friends of the Library of Queens University of Charlotte was established in 1971 by a group of men and women in the Charlotte area who loved books and wished to broaden the usefulness and influence of the Everett Library, to provide a cultural contribution to the life of Charlotte.
Our mission is to share this educational institution, its resources and book collections with everyone who wishes to join our membership. In addition, The Friends of the Library plans annual events that would interest those who love to read and who celebrate in the fellowship of books and ideas.
Thousands of people have been on Queens’ campus to hear a variety of authors at the popular annual Book and Author Events as well as other planned programs throughout the years. Our programs offer a platform for the well-known writer as well as the novice to participate with our members in an exchange of ideas.
Although not exclusively a fund-raising organization, we have contributed through the years to special challenges for the betterment of Everett Library, such as:
- $25,000 to help construct the Rena Harrell Special Collections Room
- $4,000 to complete the Media Center
- $12,000 for refurbishing the reading area of the Library
- $9,500 for equipment for the audio-visual center
- $125,000 for books for Library accreditation (a twentieth anniversary gift)
- $25,000 for a handsome circulation desk
- $8,500 for the main computer kiosk on the first floor
- $5,000 for heavy duty printers for Information Commons
- $11,200 to provide glass partitions and doors for individual offices for technical and reference staff
- $22,000 to provide new furniture for Everett Library, replacing all chairs and tables
- $15,000 to enable the Library to provide a Laptop Loaner Program for students, faculty & staff
- $7,000 to provide JSTOR, an elite electronic set of scholarly journals which faculty and students have requested to enhance research capabilities
In addition, our members know that the Everett Library Endowment Fund is wonderful way to honor or memorialize someone special in our lives who treasures or treasured books and the many ideas that spring from them. Just call our Library to see how easy it is to contribute in another’s name for a gift that goes on giving.
Join our membership and explore books and authors as we share in the friendship of others who value reading and knowledge.
