NC ECHO is an acronym for North Carolina Exploring Cultural Heritage Online. Unveiled in 2001, it is a dynamic statewide, collaborative web site which links the user to special collections and digitization projects in North Carolina archives, museums, and libraries.
This unique resource is one of the first in the nation to create and support a statewide framework for digitization and address issues pertaining to digitized collections. At the NC Echo site, you can access 767 North Carolina cultural repositories.
There are 167 collections online, including University of North Carolina Chapel Hill's "Documenting the American South", Rowan Public Library's oral history audio clip, and North Carolina State University Libraries's collaborative project on the history of forestry.
